Fire Doors in Musselburgh

The use of rated fire stopping materials tested to BS 476 part 20/22 has been part of standard building specifications for quite some time.

Many clients and indeed builders do not realise the potential risk they take by not employing the services of a third party expert in this field to ensure these products are fitted correctly.Fire stopping is more complex than filling a hole with a fire resistant material.

Fire stopping materials only perform as they should when installed in accordance with test certification and manufacturer’s instructions but sadly these requirements are often overlooked. This results in fires that should have been prevented or at least contained.

Routine investigations by the Fire Brigade following a fire will identify the absence of or poorly fitted fire stopping materials and under the Regulatory Reform (Fire safety) Order, building landlords and managers responsible have a duty to ensure that fire stopping is installed and installed correctly.

WHAT WE DO WELL:

FIRE PROTECTION TO STRUCTURAL STEELWORK

Up to 2 hours of fire protection is by use of a high density rock mineral wool slab and we often install before the building is watertight as the boards offer a degree of water resistance.

The principle use of this protection system is the fire protection of structural steel, as part of the encasement system, where it offers up to 120 minutes protection and the protection of the occupents above.

ROCKWELL STONE WOOL

In the event of a fire, ROCKWOOLs fire proof insulation slows the spread of the flames. Whilst ROCKWOOL stone wool is non-combustible, it does not produce dangerous toxic smoke and also helps protect the building’s load-bearing structure, protecting lives and investment.

ACOUSTIC INTUMESCENT SEALANTS

The Firestop Intumescent Acoustic Sealant seals joints and service penetrations within walls, partitions, fire rated door frames and glazing systems. It can also be used to seal joints within party walls to provide an acoustic seal. Tested to BS476: Part 20, it provides up to 4 hours fire protection in joints up to 30mm in width.

FIRESTOP HIGH EXPANSION INTUMESCENT SEALANT

High Expansion Intumescent Sealant is an easy to apply water-based acrylic emulsion sealant containing graphite. It expands at temperatures above 135ºc sealing around various penetrations and services to prevent the passage of smoke and flames.
